Vitalie Micov nominated Chief of General Staff

The Cabinet proposed Vitalie Micov for the post of Chief of the General Staff, commander of the National Army. He is to be confirmed for this position by presidential decree, IPN reports.

“Mr. Micov has the necessary knowledge and experience to plan and implement the required reforms in the National Army, to ensure and transform the defense institution so as to ensure peace and promote democratic values in the country,” Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi said in the Cabinet’s meeting.

Colonel Vitalie Micov previously served as military attaché in the United States and also as senior military commander of Moldova’s peacekeeping contingent in the Security Zone.

The position of Chief of the General Staff, commander of the National Army, remained vacant after the expiry of the employment contract of Eduard Ohladchuk, who was appointed in October 2021.
