President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree to confer the Order of the Republic on the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, former Premier Vlad Filat, IPN has learned from the presidential press service.

The order was awarded in gratitude for the special contribution to promoting the democratic values and to developing the dialogue between Moldova and the European Union as well as for the efforts made to restore the settlements affected by the natural disasters of the summer of 2010 and for prodigious organizational activity.

Earlier, Vlad Filat was conferred one of the highest state awards of Georgia – the Order of Excellence. He also holds the Liberty Medal, which was offered to him by the Atlantic Council of the United States in June 2011.
