After a series of consultations with civil society last week, Prime Minister Vlad Filat has declared that the Alliance for European Integration is splitting because of internal conflicts. “I won’t be the one to split the AIE. The biggest enemies are its members”, he told a press briefing, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“After a week of consultations, I have learned that my worries are shared by the entire society. I let those wanting to speak or show off do their wish. They have been obsessed with my person and poured attacks with intensity and fantasy. I’ve heard no word about the Alliance’s efficiency. The Alliance mustn’t be treated like a company where shareholders lust for bigger influence and try to steal shares from one another. Moldova’s citizens are not for sale. The Alliance must exist, but not at the cost of maintaining a corrupt system and giving up the reforms and goals we have undertaken”, said Vlad Filat.
The Prime Minister promised he would carry on till the end his fight against fraud schemes and corruption inherited from the previous government. Filat criticized ministers who were busier making statements than working for the people. He added that in the future ministers who fail to perform their duties would be sacked.
“I can’t accept to hide incompetence for the sake of the Alliance for European Integration. Some of those in charge think their positions are for life because they feel protected, but we need competence. Not all the heads of institutions are doing their jobs well. Little was doneto reform institutions”, declared Vlad Filat. He urged the AIE parties to stop personalizing and politicizing state institutions. “This is why we can’t elect the President of Moldova. There must be no more selfishness, we mustn’t sacrifice Moldova for one’s pride”, he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted two priorities for the AIE: to ensure the efficiency of the government and to ensure political stability.
He added that breaking the talks with opposition was one of AIE’s big mistakes. “We must find a compromise. We owe this to those who voted the Alliance and to the 40% who voted the opposition. Yesterday (July 11), I made the first step. I met with (Communist leader) Vladimir Voronin and we discussed about the situation in the country in order to find solutions. The meeting is a proof we can have a dialogue that would end the crisis”, Filat said.
The head of the Government stressed that the main danger for Moldova are not the Communists, but the “mafia”. “We don’t fight against the Communists. They’ve retreated and are waiting for the right moment to return to power. Voters won’t judge us by our fight against the Communists, but by what we have done for the people. Local elections are a proof for those who follow the political process in Moldova. I don’t want us to struggle against someone or something, but for Moldova”, declared Filat.
The Prime Minister put forward a set of requests to the other AIE members, such as to evaluate the activity of heads of state institutions and to ensure the depoliticization of justice and law enforcement bodies. “If they realize this, AIE has a future. If not, everyone shall assume his share of responsibility. The rejection of these requests will mean the Government has no political support and will take the required decisions”, said Filat, suggesting that the Executive could resign.
