Moldova’s modernization is not possible without the support of foreign partners and US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit proves Moldova is indeed supported at the highest level, stated Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat during his speech in the National Opera Square on Friday.
The Prime Minister said that over the last 16 months the relationship between Moldova and the United States had developed dynamically, mentioning road rehabilitation, improvement of irrigation systems and assistance from the Millennium Challenge Corporation among the main American assistance programs in Moldova.
“The enhancement of relationshis between Moldova and the United States of America was possible because we share the same values: democracy, freedom, and respect for human rights. But there is something more that makes us closer: solidarity”, declared Prime Minister Filat.
Vlad Filat remarked that in a time of political, economical and social transformations, Moldova tried to use the experience of countries where democracy succeeded. “We highly appreciate that, despite the differences in size, military or economic might between our countries, the United States has always treated Moldova with respect and as equal partner, supporting us in the most difficult moments of consolidating our independence and sovereignty”, he said.
Vlad Filat stressed that Moldova was able to play a positive role in maintaining regional stability. He added that serious efforts were undertaken to improve democratic instruments so as to make Moldova a “success story”.
Vlad Filat held a speech alongside US Vice President Joe Biden, who made an official visit to Chisinau on Friday.
