Vlad Filat says he found out about transaction with munitions from the press
Prime Minister Vlad Filat denied Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta’s assertion that he informed the country’s administration about the transaction with munitions beforehand.
“I received no information from Mister Marinuta. I found out about the transaction from the press. When an analysis is presented, I will state my viewpoint. There is a special governmental commission headed by Mister Lazar (Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar – e.n.). Maybe it knows more,” Vlad Filat said in a press briefing on Monday.
The Premier said he discussed this problem with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Alyev during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw. “Sufficient information was presented and the situation was clarified,” stated Vlad Filat. He added he was invited by Ilham Alyev to Azerbaijan and will pay a visit to this country in November.
In mid-September, a plane landed at the Chisinau International Airport and then at the Marculesti Airport, where it was loaded with munitions. During parliamentary hearings, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta said the transaction was legal. There were sold old munitions that can not longer be used and were included in the list of facilities for sale approved by the legislative body. The minister refused to say which country bought the weapons, arguing it was confidential information. The press reported the munitions were taken to Armenia.
