Vlad Filat: We lag behind in ensuring decent living conditions

“Last year Moldova managed to achieve almost all the set objectives. It obtained results at national, international and regional levels, but we still lag behind in ensuring decent living conditions for the Moldovan people,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat said when presenting the Government’s report in Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Premier said that financial resources will be identified to stimulate the economic growth and ensure the people’s welfare. Among the most important accomplishments, Vlad Filat enumerated the adoption in 2011 of the justice sector reform strategy for 2011-2016 and the action plan for implementing it. The organization and functioning of the legal system was improved by liquidating the specialized courts of law. Amendments were formulated to improve the legislation on the civil and penal procedures. There was initiated the demilitarization of the Ministry of the Interior. Last year, 55,000 teachers benefited from a pay raise. Since January 1, 2012, the schools of 11 districts have been financed per student. The roads and bus stations are being repaired 102 busses were bought for transporting children to school. As to the economic sector, the EU remained the main export partner. The rise in exports was 1.5 times higher than the rise in imports. According to Vlad Filat, Moldova also made progress in the business sector. Agriculture remains the key area. The agricultural production grew by 4.8%, while exports by 23%. A sum of 400 million lei was allocated in the rural area for providing subsidies and reducing poverty in rural areas. As regards road infrastructure, the Premier said that there is capacity to rehabilitate practically all the national roads by the end of 2014. Among achievements, Vlad Filat also mentioned the reopening of the official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format and the restoration of freight traffic via Transnistria. He stated that the development of the school infrastructure and road infrastructure is among the priorities for 2012. In the end, Vlad Filat said that the Government of Moldova worked in rather difficult conditions owing to the political and constitutional crisis and the world economic crisis. “However, Moldova succeeded in developing and obtained constant economic growth. The relations with the strategic partners have developed continuously, but sustained effort should be made in continuation so as to deepen the reforms,” he stated. The government program “European Integration: Freedom, Democracy, Welfare” covers the period between 2011 and 2014.
