Vlad Plahotniuc discussed reforms with IMF executive director, press release of PDM

The first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc had a meeting with the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund Menno Snel, who represents the Moldovan authorities in the IMF Executive Board, in Washington, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the PDM.

The discussions began with the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the IMF. In this context, there were discussed the latest developments and the progress made by the Government of Moldova in doing reforms.

Thus, Vlad Plahotniuc and the IMF executive director conferred on the parliamentary agenda and the recently adopted legislative initiatives, the pace of doing structural and economic reforms and the future objectives deriving from these reforms.

“At the end of February, we approved the priority reform action roadmap of the government. We have to implement 82 measures until July inclusive. 39% of the measures were carried out and we continue at the same sustained pace,” said the first deputy chairman of the PDM. He assured that in Moldova there is the political will needed to take measures to ensure the country’s economic and social development, including on his part and on the part of the ruling coalition.

Vlad Plahotniuc also said the executive of Moldova enjoys the unconditional support of the political coalition for holding negotiations to sign a new agreement with the IMF. “For us, it is very important to ensure economic and political stability by signing a new agreement with the IMF. We will show, including by this way, the seriousness by which we address the modernization and reformation of the state,” he stated.

According to the press release of the PDM, the first deputy chairman of the party is paying a working visit to the U.S. at the invitation of the Atlantic Council. Earlier, Vlad Plahotniuc had a number of meetings with experts of the Atlantic Council, with representatives of the U.S. Department of State and of civil society, with opinion leaders and potential U.S. investors.
