Vladimir Voronin: Government reform looks like late populism

The reform of the Government looks like late populism. The bureaucracy that exists in Moldova can be found nowhere in the world, said the leader of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin. He told a news conference that it is very easy to change the name of ministries, but it is the content of changes and how the activity of the new ministries is organized that matter, IPN reports.

Vladimir Voronin said that if the Communist MPs are involved in constructive discussions on the reform of the Government in Parliament and their proposals are taken into account, they could support the legislative initiative. “Everything should be done wisely. The formation of the government according to political criteria is a big stupidity as the government should be headed by professionals, not by party members,” stated the Communist leader.

In another development, Vladimir Voronin said the so-called “historical compromise” on the modification of the voting system, reached by the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists, shows that the two parties have acted in a coordinated way since Nicolae Timofti was elected President. The two divided the country, but unequally as the Democrats took the biggest share.

According to the Communist leader, the proposal to introduce the mixed-member electoral system submitted by the Socialists is actually the same bill that was proposed by the Democrats in 2013, while the acceptance by the Democratic Party of the Socialists’ bill is not a compromise, but an achieved goal. The Party of Communists is against any change in the electoral system and will not support such changes.
