“The date of presidential elections has not been fixed. We possess no information about this and haven’t discussed the issue. We consider that the elections must take place by the middle of December,” the chairman of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said after the plenary meeting of the party’s Central Committee held on November 25, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vladimir Voronin said they discussed neither Marian Lupu nor other candidate that the PCRM may field. “We will hold meetings later and discuss the matter within the party,” said the Communist leader.
The Central Committee adopted a declaration on the political situation in the country. “This situation affects the country and the people from a number of viewpoints. It may lead to the destruction of statehood and the management of the country from outside. In such conditions, we will support the protests staged by the people and will initiate discussions on the voluntary handover of the power to the opposition,” said Vladimir Voronin.
According to him, protests will be mounted on November 26 in Orhei, Hancesti, Glodeni and Cahul.
Last Saturday, the PCRM held a protest in Chisinau. Communist MPs and their supporters demanded that the ruling alliance resign.
