Vladimir Voronin: We will not field a candidate and will not take part in mayoral elections

The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova will not provide a candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. Moreover, the PCRM will not take part in the mayoral elections that will take place in Chisinau, Balti and other communities on May 20, the party’s leader Vladimir Voronin stated in the program “Important” on TVC 21 channel, IPN reports.

“We will not field a candidate and will not take part in these elections because this mayor will be elected for a year and will not be able to do much in the period following the witnessed destruction and chaos. This will not manage to change things much,” said Vladimir Voronin.

He noted that he sees no person with managerial skills who would be able to bring things in order in the city among the candidates for mayor. “The mayor has more problems and fewer possibilities than a Prime Minister,” stated the ex-President of Moldova.

Vladimir Voronin said very serious problems are witnessed in the municipality of Chisinau. 90% of the revenues in the Republic of Moldova are formed in the capital city, but the Chisinau City Hall gets 5-7% of this sum. “We need a mayor who would work out a strategy for developing the city and would discuss it at public debates with the citizens,” stated the Communist leader.
