Voronin urges Filat to stop privatization of Banca de Economii

The chairman of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Vlad Filat, asking that he should become involved and stop the attempts to privatize Banca de Economii, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin said attempts are being made to diminish the normative capital and assets of Banca de Economii. The bank’s shares in October 2010 – January 2013 have been devalued with a view to privatizing it at a lower price. “Banca de Economii is the only financial institution on which the Government has control. Steps started to be taken on 22.11.2010 so as to artificially ruin the bank. In only 10 days, the price fell from 200 lei to 35 lei per share. This way, the state property that represents 56% of the bank’s registered capital was devalued. Despite the direct warning of the IMF Mission of November 2012, which said the consequences of all the violations of the legislation should be liquidated by March 2013, the dubious operations with the bank’s shares are not stopped,” Vladimir Voronin says in his letter. He also said that all the transactions with shares in Banca de Economii should be banned immediately as each of them, in the conditions created by raiders, devalues the state property in this bank by at least 250% in relation to the annual average price. Vladimir Voronin also said that the holdings of 8.9% and 2.4%, which were offered for open sale at the Stock Exchange on January 14, should be redeemed. “Mister Prime Minister, on January 16 this year, another holding of 3.87% of the registered capital was sold by direct sale for a raider price of 13.87 lei per share,” Vladimir Voronin stated. He voiced hope that Vlad Filat realizes the significance of his proposals and will take measures to implement them.
