The statements concerning Moldova’s entry into the Euroasian Union made by the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin are electoral in character, analyst Arcadie Barbarosie considers. He stated for Info-Prim Neo that by those statements Vladimir Voronin showed that he prepares for early elections and suggested that he was not ready to hold negotiations with the Alliance for European Integration to identify a solution to the political crisis.
“It is very hard to say what goal Voronin pursued by making those statements. Somehow they are electoral in character. They are in some way aimed against any possible agreements with the ruling alliance or some of the parties of the alliance. I’m inclined to believe that the statements are intended to draw the early elections closer,” said the analyst.
Arcadie Barbarosie also said that Vladimir Voronin’s statements do not seem to represent the position of the entire party because the PCRM earlier declared they are for Moldova’s integration into the EU. “The European integration means not nice words in Brussels, but accomplishments inside the country in accordance with those words. What Voronin said today runs counter to what the party did and stated during the eight years while in power,” he said
On October 5, the Communist leader said that Moldova should join the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union as this would offer Moldova the historical chance of overcoming the crisis.
