Way state bodies treat Paciu case affects country’s image, Iurie Leanca

The way the state institutions are treating the Paciu case affects Moldova’s image abroad, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca told the journalists after the EU Ambassador in Chisinau Dirk Schuebel said the way the investigation into Sorin Paciu’s death will be conducted will play an important role in liberalizing the visa regime, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The way the state institutions are treating this case, what will be the attitude and how we will show that we have institutions and laws and nobody is outside the law – all these aspects affect Moldova’s image,” said Iurie Leanca. According to the official, the state institutions reacted inappropriately. In a democratic state such treatments on the part of the institutions and certain officials are inadmissible. The reactions of the EU Ambassador Dirk Schuebel and of the U.S. Ambassador William Moser to this case were very clear. The diplomats expect a complete, thorough and independent investigation. “I hope very much that we will be able to draw the necessary conclusions, starting with juridical, political and moral ones, and to show that we praise very much the people’s lives and the responsibility that we have as statesmen and politicians towards society,” said Iurie Leanca. The 34-year-old Sorin Paciu was wounded fatally during hunting on December 23. He died in the hospital two days later. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu, President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the competent bodies acted inappropriately and a parliamentary commission of inquiry will be se up to investigate this case.
