“It would be natural and even necessary to rebuild the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), but we have to reconsider a number of things. It would happen on two conditions: we want a government program with definite, mainly left policies, and this is a matter of principle, and the Prime Minister in the future government should represent the Democratic Party,” the party's secretary general Valeriu Lazar said in the First Source program on the TV channel Prime, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Democratic Party's press service. “I understand why Mister Lupu is so disappointed by the present Government because he also bears responsibility for the country's administration. The results of this administration could have been better. I did not have the possibility of discussing and promoting certain social ideas in this Government. I was also dissatisfied with the populism, sometimes exaggerated, promoted by Mister Filat. Very often, our proposals for reducing poverty, have not been supported. An example is the mechanism for maintaining prices. It took me four months to convince my Cabinet colleagues of the necessity of this mechanism, which does not affect the principles of a market economy, but allows maintaining prices at a low level in a poor country. But this mechanism has not been yet become functional,” Lazar said, adding the difference in votes is too small to result in hegemony and exaggerated leadership. “In a poverty-stricken country, the parties should formulate socially-inclined electoral offers with the left policies being on top,” Valeriu Lazar said. “If somebody says the EU is governed by people's, Liberal parties, we can reply that the democracies and market economies in the EU are mature, while the democracies in transition need a powerful state, with a professional apparatus. The Liberal governments that ruled Romania during the last six years now made the people take to the streets. We have many politicians, but few statesmen.”
