We will work in opposition, but will be as strong, Democratic leader

The decision to withdraw from the government and move to the opposition is a new stage for the Democratic Party, which will enable the party to work more on the way of doing politics and on new ideas. The party will actively work in the opposition and will not allow foreign groups of interests to take over the Republic of Moldova, the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc posted on Facebook, being quoted by IPN.

“As to myself, I need a break, but not for rest. Those who are close to me know I do not like to rest and that I cannot stay far from our projects and team. During these days, I’m working on a number of plans and the one aimed at restoring stability in Moldova and the peace needed by the people is the most important of these,” wrote Vlad Plahotniuc.

He noted he needs time to make sure his family is safe following the hard moments through which he went, including a failed attempt to abduct him last year, when he was on a visit abroad. “I have the right to take all the measures to protect myself, my family and the people close to me as I think it’s best for them. In this period, Moldova is not a safe country not because of the possible criminal cases invented by opponents, but because of some who want to take it over by force,” stated the politician.

On June 14, the Democratic Party announced its withdrawal from power. The announcement was followed by the resignation of the whole Cabinet led by Prime Minister Pavel Filip. The next day, the Government headed by Maia Sandu held a meeting and in the afternoon of June 15 the Constitutional Court annulled its judgements passed during June 7-9. This way, the Parliament managed by Zinaida Grechanyi became constitutional and the acts adopted by this and by the Sandu Government until then became legitimate.
