The countries of the “Weimar Triangle” – Germany, Poland and France – remain committed to ensuring the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The three states are together to provide support on this path, and together this goal of European integration of the Republic of Moldova will be achieved, the ministers of the “Weimar Triangle” countries stated at the press conference held in Chisinau, together with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov, IPN reports.
Cristina Gerasimov said that the Republic of Moldova has a special relationship with the three states and the meeting took place on a special day for Moldova – the day President Maia Sandu signed the decree on the initiation of the accession negotiations and when the general negotiating position was approved by the Cabinet.
“We have a good opportunity to reiterate our firm commitment to continue with the reforms necessary to be ready to become members of the great European family. In the discussions we had today, we highlighted the most recent developments in our European path. We underlined the fact that we have successfully carried out the 9 recommendations of the European Commission in order to be ready to move on to the next step in our negotiation process. This does not mean that the justice sector reform or the de-oligarchization process ended. On the contrary, it means that we have even more work to do and we are firmly committed to continue fighting corruption in the justice system and the interests of some groups to monopolize certain branches of the economy, the media or critical infrastructure,” stated Cristina Gerasimov.
Minister of State for Europe and Climate of Germany Anna Lührmann said that the Republic of Moldova clearly belongs to the European family. On June 25, negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the EU will be opened. “This demonstrates both the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the EU’s commitment to Moldova’s European aspirations. I’m very impressed by the progress of reforms that has been demonstrated here in the recent years, despite all the challenges,” noted the official.
Anna Lührmann says that the disinformation taking place in Europe is extremely visible. The “Weimar Triangle” is committed to fighting disinformation. “And it is also important for every citizen to be aware that there are many actors who try to discredit and reduce confidence in progress and the European path. Rest assured, we – Germany, France and Poland – remain committed to ensuring the European path of Moldova and Ukraine. We are with you, we support you on this path and be sure that together we will achieve this goal of European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” stated the German official.
Poland’s Minister for the European Union Adam Szłapk noted that representatives of the “Weimar Triangle” are in Moldova to express the strongest support for the country’s European aspirations. “Together we are safe, we are richer, stronger. You can count on us in what holds your historic decision. We keep our fingers crossed for you and I assure you that soon you will be with us in the European community,” said the Polish official.
France was represented by Graham Paul, Ambassador of the French Republic to Chisinau. “It is a clear signal of our commitment to the successful integration of the Republic of Moldova into a stronger European Union, united by diversity, which protects its citizens also by common values, such as peace, sovereignty and respect for human rights... We want to see a successful enlargement process, which will contribute to European vitality, stability and security,” said the ambassador.
