World Health Organization welcomes reforms initiated in Moldova

Moldova managed to implement the most important actions within the reform of the health system, coordinated with the World Health Organization, said the director of the Health Systems and Public Health Division of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Hans Kluge, who is in Moldova on a visit. According to Hans Kluge, the common administrative management of medical-sanitary institutions, promoted by the Ministry of Health of Moldova, is typical of many countries from Eastern and Western Europe, which now undergo similar changes, Info-Prim Neo reports. “For the implemented reform to produce the expected results, the current health system must be more efficient. There must be provided medical services of a higher quality for elderly people. Improving the finality of the health services is a necessary element,” said the WHO official. Hans Kluge also said that Moldova can be praised for having global coverage in providing primary medical assistance and first aid, but the system has a double burden owing to the increasing number of diseases. Within the reform promoted by the Ministry of Health and the WHO, more young specialists will be attracted to healthcare. Effort will be made to increase the prestige of the profession of doctor and the role of the medical workers. Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said that combating the non-transmitted diseases, which cause 88% of the deaths in Moldova, is the greatest challenge. The hospitals must become medical institutions prepared to provide services of a high quality when surgeries on heart and brain are needed. Therefore, they need modern medical equipment, well-trained staff, the necessary drugs and to optimize the use of the resources existing in healthcare.
