Yanukovych calls on U.S. and EU to boycott Ukrainian government

The ousted President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych called on the United States and the European Union not to support the current Ukrainian government. The politician said those who took over the power are a group of neo-Nazis who aim to occupy the post of head of state, IPN reports.

“I came before the journalists to refute rumors and show that I’m alive. Moreover, I’m the legally elected President of Ukraine and Supreme Commander of the army. I didn’t run away and didn’t renounce my post. I left the country because my life was in danger,” Victor Yanukovych said in a news conference held in Russia’s Rostov-on-Don.

Addressing the EU officials, Yanukovych said they should remember what fascism is, underlining that the presidential elections set to take place in Ukraine on May 25 are illegal.

This is the second conference held by Victor Yanukovych after his departure. The Supreme Rada voted to dismiss him after it became known that he left the country. There was elected a new government and the President’s powers were delegated to the head of Parliament.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca goes to Kiev at the beginning of next week to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Arseny Yatseniuk. The Moldovan official said the situation in Ukraine generates direct and indirect threats to Moldova, not only political, but also economic.
