Zinaida Greceanyi’s candidacy for presidency may be discussed, AEI leaders

The Alliance for European Integration (AEI) suggested that Zinaida Greceanyi may be voted in as President of Moldova. Next week, the leaders of the AEI will convoke the Council and will then meet the three MPs who left the Communist Party, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is the case for the AEI to meet with the three persons in order to see how to facilitate the process of electing the head of state. This change may make this process easier and provide more opportunities,” the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu said after the November 4 sitting of the legislature. He stated that he is ready to examine and vote for other candidates for the presidency than himself. “This dialogue is needed as we must find a solution,” said Marian Lupu, adding that the decision of the three MPs was a surprise for him. The leader of the PL Mihai Ghimpu said the move made by the three lawmakers shows that they want the head of state to be elected so as to avoid early elections. “Dodon and his team know what they want. The objective is known – to overcome the crisis and promote the people’s interests, not the party or group interests. I hope that what they said is true and they will prove it on November 18,” stated Mihai Ghimpu. He also said that he has a positive attitude towards Zinaida Greceanyi and her candidacy can be discussed. “I have a good opinion about her as a woman. Now that she is not in the PCRM, we will have discussions,” said Mihai Ghimpu. The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said Igor Dodon’s statements are a signal that the political crisis may be ended. “We will see what the three lawmakers want and will try to reach a compromise,” he stressed. Asked by the journalists if the PLDM will vote for Zinaida Greceanyi, Valeriu Strelet said this subject will be discussed and official statements will be made afterward. “We are only analyzing the prospects. We now have the AEI’s candidate and will discuss other options when they appear,” he said. Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchuc defected from the PCRM on November 4.
