Nearly 1.5 million lei was seized as a result of searches carried out at the Radiology and Imagistics Section of the Mother and Child Institute on August 2. The money was found in the offices of section doctors and in a safe deposit box rented in the name of the section head at a commercial bank, IPN has learned from the National Anticorruption Center.
In the safe deposit box, there were over 761,000 lei, more than €24,000, US$1,000 and golden items. The prosecutors will ask the judge of inquiry to order the seizure of these so that their origin could be determined.
Earlier, about 7 million lei in different currencies, a building and two cars were sequestrated in a similar case that involves doctors of the National Medical Diagnosis Center.
In both of the cases, the doctors of the National Medical Diagnosis Center and of the Mother and Child Institute are investigated for passive corruption and abuse of power. They face up to ten years in jail, ban on holding public posts for a maximum period of ten years and a fine of 400,000 lei.
