Arrests in case of influence peddling in issuance of driving licenses

Two people from northern Moldova, including a civil servant, were detained in a case of influence peddling in the issuance of driving licenses. The suspects allegedly asked and received money to influence officials of the Balti Vehicle Registration and Driver Documentation Division to issue a driving license, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the civil servant and the intermediary allegedly asked and received €1,500 from the denouncer. They were to influence employees of the Division to favor a candidate for obtaining a category B driving license in the exams. After not honoring their promise, they decided to return the amount received. This fact was documented by the NAC in a criminal case initiated for influence peddling.

On Thursday morning, NAC officers, under the direction of prosecutors of the Balti Prosecutor’s Office, searched the homes and cars of the suspects. Evidence relevant to the case was collected, including information carriers and files of persons who applied for a driving license with amounts of money attached.

The two persons were detained for 72 hours.
