The average salary of doctors in the Republic of Moldova increased significantly in recent years, reaching 18,000 lei, said Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco. In the case of some specialists, such as anesthesiologists, the salaries are even higher.
"In 2020, before we came, the average salary of a doctor was 11,000 lei. Currently, the average salary, absolutely for all specializations, is 18,000 lei. The average salary in reanimatology and anesthesiology is 25,000 lei," the minister said in a program on Radio Moldova.
In the field of forensic medicine, salaries rose from 14,000 to 28,000 lei.
"Now the salary of a forensic pathologist is 28,000 lei and this makes us hope that the young people we are training will choose to work in this sector. It is a field with a great shortage of staff. Out of 18 districts with a shortage of forensic pathologists, 12 districts remained with such a problem. In six districts, we solved it," stated the minister.
However, the problem of lack of medical staff persists in a number of districts of the country, especially in areas such as family medicine, oncology, cardiology and neurology. In order to compensate for the lack of specialists, the Ministry of Health decided to cover the travel expenses of doctors who reside and work in different localities.
"No matter how rich we are, we will never afford to have by a doctor in each small locality. For us it is important to put family doctors on cars so that they can move," said Ala Nemerenco.
The minister reiterated that the remuneration policies and modernization of the medical infrastructure are essential element for attracting and keeping medical personnel in the public health system.
