Viorel Braga, who was named director of the Chisinau Central Market on June 24, handed over his resignation, invoking health reasons. As from June 28, Iurie Vasilenko will act as caretaker director until the Chisinau Municipal Council holds a contest and fills the post, IPN reports.
According to the Chisinau City Hall, Iurie Vasilenko is a jurist by profession. He worked at the Ministry of the Interior, as economic fraud investigation officer. He is a bachelor of law and graduated from the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova. He also studied at the International Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest.
“What I want is for the Central Market to be clean and no money to be collected illegally from entrepreneurs there. The municipal enterprise should work transparently and create special conditions for the national producers, not only for someone’s pockets,” stated acting mayor general of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu.
He addressed those who consider that the law in Moldova does not work and who resort to intimidation. “I ask them to look at calendars and to see that it is the year 2019. Leave speculations aside as the law enforcement agencies will shed light in this case.”
A week ago, the acting mayor dismissed Lilia Buștiuc from the post of Centrale Market director following accusations of corruption made by traders and business entities working at the market. The former chief said her dismissal was unjust and has nothing to do with her professional abilities, but was decided because she waged war on the illegal schemes implemented at the institution.
