The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided updated information regarding the accident that occurred in Cluj, Romania. According to the source, of the three people who lost their lives, two were Moldovan citizens, while the third was a Ukrainian national, IPN reports.
Two other Moldovan citizens were taken to the Municipal Hospital in Dej, where they underwent medical examinations but did not require hospitalization.
Out of the eight people involved in the accident, four were citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The others were citizens of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, residing in Estonia.
The minibus, registered in the Republic of Moldova, was traveling from Poland. While driving through Cluj County, the vehicle is believed to have veered into the opposite lane and collided with a truck.
The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest is in direct contact with the victims of the tragic accident as well as with the relevant Romanian authorities. The diplomatic mission is also prepared to provide consular assistance upon request and will intervene, as necessary, to offer available support.
The accident occurred this morning around 06:00 on DN1C, near the Cluj locality of Catcau. Preliminary data suggests the minibus driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic. The collision happened on a dangerous curve, where the minibus crashed into a van driven by a 52-year-old man from Mures County.
