The MPs, advisers and public functionaries of the Parliament’s Secretariat during five days will declare the symbolic presents they received. The presents will be filed and assessed by a special commission of the Parliament’s Secretariat that will take into consideration the estimated price indicated by the recipient or the accompanying documents, IPN has learned from the legislature’s press service.
If the value of the present is lower than 1,000 lei, the commission will return this to the recipient. If its value is higher than 1,000 lei, the recipient will be able to get the present back after paying its equivalent value within 30 calendar days, while the money will be transferred to the state budget.
If the present has a historical, scientific or artistic value, determined by experts consulted by the commission, this will be transmitted free to museums, libraries or other institutions, by informing the Ministry of Culture.
The regulations to not apply to perishable goods, medals, decorations, insignia, orders and scarves received while fulfilling one’s duties.
Also, each year the commission will make an inventory of the presents and will submit the list of presents that can be donated for charity purposes or can be sold to the Speaker of Parliament.
The presents will be written on a special public register. The list of presents and their recipients will be published annually on the Parliament’s website. Gifts will also be kept in the legislature’s museum and will be displayed in an exhibition hall in the Parliament Building.
