A citizen of Israel was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking. A year ago, he entered the Republic of Moldova with 15 kilograms of synthetic drugs and told customs officers at the airport that he was transporting cat sand, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that the passenger arrived from Amsterdam by plane. At the airport checkpoint, he said that he didn’t have anything to declare. However, the inspectors directed him to have the luggage checked. Even though he ignored them, he was returned and subjected to control.
There, customs officers found three cardboard boxes that contained yellow-brown crystals. The defendant said that it was cat sand. Subsequently, following examinations, it was established that the 33-year-old individual had synthetic drugs, such as MDMA, with a dangerous effect on health.
At the request of prosecutors, the young man was placed in preventive detention, with further investigation of the activities of accomplices abroad. The case was remitted to the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City. After he serves the 10-year jail term, the man will be deported to Israel.
