The medical-social center “Saint Agata” that is intended for elderly people and invalids was opened in Ocnița town on December 4. This is part of the project “Ensuring of quality and accessibly of medical-social services in the Republic of Moldova” that is financed by the Czech Development Agency within the cooperation for development with Moldova for 2018-2023. The budget of the project is €810,000, IPN reports.

The center will provide hygiene and physiotherapy services in accordance with the family doctor’s recommendations. In the afternoon, the team will travel to the domicile of persons with reduced mobility who cannot travel to the center. The personnel will include a specialist, a medical assistant and social assistants.

Attending the inaugural event, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Zdeněk Krejčí said the support for care services is a long-term priority for the Czech Republic. During the past ten years, the Czech Republic financed the opening of nine care centers, this being the tenth one.

According to the ambassador, besides the reconstruction, outfitting and financing of the care centers, the Czech support also aims to improve the legislation, the institutional framework in the field. For the purpose, they work with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.

In 2022, the medical-social center “Saint Agata” will be transferred under the management of the local authorities. Until then, the costs will be covered by the project and the management will be ensured by the public association “Homecare”.
