Promoting gender equality is a crucial aspect of contemporary society, contributing to greater social cohesion and a more equitable development for all community members. On International Women’s Day, March 8, the Partnership for Development Center (CPD) presents 8 initiatives aimed at accelerating gender equality, IPN reports.
The first initiative involves greater efforts to prevent and combat sexual harassment in educational institutions. CPD recommends adding a dedicated chapter to the Education Code. Additionally, a methodology should be approved and institutionalized to assess the maturity level of internal processes within educational institutions. According to CPD experts, it is necessary to include mandatory subjects in the curriculum focused on reducing and eliminating all forms of discrimination, harassment, sexual abuse, and violence. Furthermore, a National Anti-Harassment Program should be developed.
Another initiative aims at preventing and combating obstetric and gynecological violence, including by developing a legal framework for its prevention and elimination. A further initiative addresses reducing the gender pay gap, as in 2023, women earned on average 15.6% less than men. CPD believes that employers should be required to disclose salary structures and remuneration criteria.
The Partnership for Development Center also highlights the need to support young families, as the presence of a child reduces women's employment rate by 28.6% compared to women without children. Other initiatives include promoting women’s reproductive health and improving the accessibility of public and private institutions. Official data shows that out of 5,137 essential public institutions assessed, 3,440 are not adapted or do not meet accessibility standards.
The seventh initiative focuses on ensuring inclusive education. According to CPD, making study programs more flexible in terms of duration and organization is necessary to provide equal opportunities for accessing and completing education, particularly for young women with caregiving responsibilities or mobility challenges.
The eighth initiative involves introducing and promoting sexual education as a mandatory subject in the school curriculum. It also includes creating programs and courses for adults.
The latest Gender Equality Index 2025 data indicates that the average level of equality between women and men, calculated across six strategic areas, was estimated at 60 points, one point lower than the previous year. There has been fragile progress in some areas, including the labor market and education. However, the most significant regression in recent years has been observed in the area of stereotypes and biases.
