PSRM intends to mount protests if law to lower retirement age is repealed

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) is concerned and condemns the current regime’s intention to raise again the retirement age. The party noted the government should abandon this intention or it reserves the right to mount large-scale protests in defense of the citizens’ right to serene and safe old age, IPN reports.

In a press release, PSRM says the citizens are stupefied by the antisocial policies pursued by the Party of Action and Solidarity. The Socialists warn that the government’s intention to repeal the law to lower the retirement age adopted by PSRM can have an explosive effect in society.

By the law promoted and adopted by PSRM, the retirement age for women was decreased to 57 years, while that for men to 62 years. The law is to start to be applied on January 1, 2022.

Representatives of the government said they will not allow the law to lower the retirement age to take effect as the Republic of Moldova faces a workforce crisis.
