Rain and high winds cause havoc in a number of settlements

The rain with hail and the strong winds caused damage in a number of districts in the evening of June 15. The supply of electric power was interrupted partially in 23 settlements of 9 districts, with the districts of Floresti and Straseni being the most affected.  Intervention teams worked on the spot to restore the power supply. At 9am today, five settlements of four districts - Falesti, Straseni, Aneni Noi, and Causeni – still experienced power outages. The high winds downed trees and tore away slates from roofs. The damage caused by hail hasn’t been yet estimated.

Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that the wind damaged the roofs of four houses in Barboieni village of Nisporeni district. Two trees were downed. One of them fell onto a car at a filling station in Volovita, Soroca. The other tree fell onto a house at a summer camp in Anenii Noi. In both of the cases, rescuers were called to remove the trees. Nobody was hurt. Two houses in Doltu, Falesti, were flooded and the rescuers provided assistance to the dwellers.

The local emergencies commissions are assessing the damage caused.

For June 16 and 17, the weather forecasters issued a yellow code advisory for storm and hail. The temperatures will decrease. There will be torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The wind will intensify to 15-20 m/s. On June 17, the highest temperatures will drop by 10 degrees Celsius compared with June 15.
