Victims of domestic violence to be exempted from state tax in court

The bill that provides for the exemption of victims of domestic violence from paying the state tax when going to court was unanimously approved by the Parliament’s commission on appointments and immunities, IPN reports.

The same bill suggests abrogating a provision of the State Tax Law that refers to the collection of the state tax in case of lawsuits concerning economic disputes that appear when signing, modifying or terminating economic contracts. According to the informative note to the bill, the civil legislation does not specify what economic dispute is and what economic contract is, leaving room for interpretation when determining the state tax: 200 lei (according to the provision that is proposed to be excluded) or 3% of the value of the civil lawsuit in case of property disputes, which include the economic ones.

The commission endorsed the bill and this is to be passed by Parliament in two readings.

The legislative proposal that amends the State Tax Law and the Civil Procedure Code was formulated by the Ministry of Justice.
