Alliance parties offer details about negotiations on local-level deal
The signing of a post-election deal at local level between the member parties of the Eurointegration Alliance is delayed by the failure to reach compromise.
After a meeting of the Alliance on Wednesday, the Liberal Democratic Party said the claims of the partners were exaggerated, while the Liberal Party said that it made enough concessions and now it expected concessions from others. Democratic Party members abstained from comments.
“PLDM has to make great efforts to convince its territorial organizations of the need to make further concessions in order to reach compromise. We face a situation where the claims of our partners are greatly exaggerated. So we continue this process of identifying compromises locally”, stated Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Lib-Dem parliamentary faction.
Strelet revealed that on Thursday the parties' working groups could pronounce on the draft agreement, which would hopefully lead to a decision. “We hope to be able to assemble the working teams and make conclusions, and maybe then we will have a final picture of existing tendencies which generally are not related to the ambitions of the central leadership of the party, but rather to the options voiced by colleagues from districts”.
Ion Hadirca, the Liberal faction leader, said: “We reached an impasse at a certain point. But I think that through communication we have become aware of the necessity to identify amiable solutions. Obviously each party defends its own interests and this is an absolutely legitimate thing. I believe we will be able to overcome this trial, and successfully too”.
Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu stated his party accepted a deal in which 20 or 21 district councilor's posts would be offered to PLDM and PDM. “Now we expect their answer to us. We are not the problem here”.
