Budget should be first adopted and head of state elected afterward, PLDM

The legislature must first pass the 2012 state budget law and then return to the election of the head of state, MP Valeriu Strelet said Wednesday, stating the position of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the lawmaker, the holding of the presidential elections in the middle of December can endanger the process of adopting very important legislative acts. “We should first adopt the state budget law, the state social instance budget law and the mandatory health insurance funds budget law as the successful cooperation with our development partners depends on this,” the leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group told a news conference. Valeriu Strelet stressed that the election of the President of Moldova is a basic condition for ensuring stability in the country, but this process should not affect the solving of socioeconomic problems. “There are about 40 bills submitted by the Government that are to be passed by Parliament as soon as possible. A possible delay in examining and adopting them imperils the political support for the governmental team and the prospects of ensuring socioeconomic stability in the short and medium term,” said Valeriu Strelet. The PLDM reasserted its commitment to the previous agreements signed with the AEI partners and its readiness to fulfill the assumed obligations, but called on the political partners and all the parliamentary forces to show responsibility. Earlier, the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu proposed that the presidential elections should take place before December 25. The Democratic Party said they should be held in the middle of December.
