Constitutional amendment proposal to be discussed with civil society
The proposal on amending the Constitution by referendum will be discussed with civil society, the leader of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov has told Info-Prim Neo.
“If the proposal is endorsed by the Constitutional Court, the Parliament will be able to take the next steps. We want to resolve the problem experienced by Moldova during three years, to overcome the crisis and elect the head of state, giving the country the chance to provide political stability,” said the lawmaker.
The parties of the Alliance for European Integration delegated by two representatives to work on the group of experts for drafting the proposal. The group will hold the first meeting at the end of this week or the start of next week.
Until now, only the Liberal Party made public its view on the modification of the constitutional article concerning the election of the head of state. The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, which consists of over 60 civil society organizations, said that regardless of the referendum outcome, the plebiscite can have legal value only for a new legislative body.
