“Mister Lupu, who is Acting President as well, should provide evidence. Otherwise, he shows he is as irresponsible as when he made similar assertions about the meeting I had in Germany,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat said, referring to Marian Lupu’s comments on his meeting with the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a program on the public TV channel Moldova 1, the Premier said that his meeting with Smirnov was held under the aegis of the OSCE and was supported and welcomed by the foreign partners, while Marian Lupu’s insinuations show lack of responsibility. “I expect him to provide arguments. Otherwise, his wish that is long-lasting is worthless as one should have certain qualities in order to become President, first of all to be responsible,” said Vlad Filat. He also said that the meeting with the Transnistrian leader forms part of a very important process for Moldova and such statements defy all those who are involved in this process. He stressed that they did not discuss things that cannot be made public. They conferred on a set of documents signed after 1992, which, according to him, continue to place impediments. Vlad Filat assured that Moldova’s sovereignty and integrity will be obeyed in the negotiation process, adding it is premature to speak about a special status for the Transnistrian region. The Prime Minister said that the first round of the formal talks in the 5+2 format that will take place in Vilnius on November 30 – December 1 will center on the principles on which the negotiations will be based and on the agenda of the next rounds. Moldova will be represented at the talks by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov. Marian Lupu earlier said that the meeting of Vlad Filat and Igor Smirnov wasn’t obligatory as the talks in Vilnius could take place without it. He also said that hidden goals, maybe related to business, might have been pursued at the meting in Bender.
