Filat, Shevchuk agree to step up activity of working groups
Prime Minister Vlad Filat and the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk decided to step up the activity of the working groups responsible for the measures aimed at building confidence between the two banks of the Nistru River, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press statement from the Government.
The meeting of the two officials took place in Odessa on Friday, at the suggestion of the Ukrainian side. Filat and Shevchuk agreed to continue work with a view to fully restoring the railway passenger and freight transportation routes on the Transnistria railroad segment. They also discussed the possibility of restoring telephone connection.
The next round of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format is to take place in Dublin at the end of February. The participants confirmed their intention to negotiate in a constructive and coherent way.
The Premier said that the most important result of the discussion is the fact that they agreed to have an open and permanent dialogue. Vlad Filat stressed that effort will be made to improve the people’s lives and the economic situation, saying the official Chisinau never levied taxes on the goods made in the Transnistrian region.
Yevgeny Shevchuk approved of the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to resolve the existing problems, especially those experienced in the economic sphere.
