A diplomat from the Republic of Lithuania will soon start work at the Embassy of Lithuania in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting sources in the Embassy.
On March 14, Violeta Motulaitė, Ambassador of Lithuania to Moldova and Argita Daudze, Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine and Moldova, signed a contract for the use of the facilities of the Embassy of Lithuania in of Moldova. The signing of the contract finalized all the necessary procedures for opening the Latvian Chancellery in Moldova.
For its part, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to base Lithuanian diplomats at the Latvian Embassy in Kazakhstan.
This “exchange of diplomats“ is a practical implementation of the Nordic-Baltic initiative on the placement of diplomats in embassies of other Nordic or Baltic states in third countries. On August 30, 2011, the Nordic Baltic countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the posting of diplomats at each other’s embassies abroad. The Memorandum makes it easier for the Nordic and Baltic countries to maintain a diplomatic presence around the world by enabling flexible and cost-effective solutions.
Lithuania is coordinating the Nordic-Baltic cooperation in 2012 (NB8 format includes 8 countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden).
