Marian Lupu: Parliament will assemble with or without Communists

Moldova's Parliament will see to its business, with or without the Communists, because it has many important bills to consider, Speaker Marian Lupu told reporters on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It isn't a surprising situation when the Communists decide to boycott the Parliament's meetings. Tomorrow, Parliament will be convened, and if the opposition doesn't come, the majority will anyway constitute a quorum. And there is no time to lose, because we have a number of important bills on the order of the day and will work”, said Marian Lupu. On Tuesday, Communist Party president Vladimir Voronin announced that the PCRM was going to boycott parliamentary sessions until a court decision was reached on their application for a vote recount in the Chisinau mayoral runoff on June 19. “We will not become hostages to falsifiers. The PCRM doesn't recognize Dorin Chirtoaca as mayor”, declared Vladimir Voronin. In round two of the mayoral race in Chisinau, Communist Igor Dodon lost by a narrow margin to incumbent Dorin Chirtoaca, with 49.4% to 50.6%. The Communists objected to the outcome, alleging numerous instances of electoral fraud, and sought a vote recount.
