Movies subtitled in Romanian in Moldovan cinemas

The cinema operators in Moldova will be obliged to show movies with Romanian subtitles as stipulated in the new regulations submitted to the Government for approval. The announcement was made by Minister of Culture Boris Focsa on ProTV Chisinau channel, Info-Prim Neo reports, According to the minister, the measure is aimed at helping the Russian language speakers to learn the official language of the country where they live. Asked to comment on the minister's statements, the co-owner of the Patria cinema chain Victor Shelin advised Boris Focsa to impose such regulations on the 40 state-run cinemas. He asked why a private company must screen movies with Romanian subtitles at a time when such a move implies additional costs. Shelin is sure that if the movies are subtitled in Romanian they will lose 90% of the spectators as the Patria cinemas show films dubbed exclusively into Russian. The director of SA Moldcinema Ada Matvievici has told Info-Prim Neo that of the state-owned cinemas only Odeon continues to work. Six years ago, the given cinemas were transferred to SA Moldcinema after the Cinematography Department had brought them into a deplorable state. Only the cinemas in four districts are now in a satisfactory condition. The others have been practically ruined as no money was invested in them during 20 years, Ada Matvievici said. A group that offers to subtitle movies in Romanian in the Moldovan cinemas was recently created on the social network Facebook. More than 1,200 persons of different ages joined the group.
