The no-confidence motion proposed by the Socialist MPs against Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur wasn’t adopted. Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said that under the legislation, the motion is considered rejected if a quorum is not present at the sitting. The announcement was made when only the Socialist and Communist MPs remained in the assembly hall, IPN reports.

Before the Lib-Dems left the sitting, MP Vadim Pistrinciuc said it is not opportune to examine this motion because the information that was to be presented could be secret in character. The minister of foreign affairs presented a report on the issue in the meeting of the Supreme Security Council at the request of President Igor Dodon and the latter could have shared that information with the Socialists.

Liberal MP Roman Botan said the Liberals consider it is not inopportune to take part in the examination of the motion. The leader of the European People’s Group Valeriu Giletski noted they share the concerns of their colleagues as the national interests should be above the political interests. The MP proposed that the debates should be held in a closed-door sitting, but the group anyway left the sitting.

The Democratic group announced that they decided to leave the sitting because of the legal effects of the absence of a quorum.

“The Socialists look for faults in order to accumulate advantages,” said the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, demanding that the motion should be withdrawn from the agenda. The Communists remained in the assembly hall after other groups left. The Communist group’s leader Inna Supac suggested examining the motion behind closed doors, but her proposal wasn’t put to the vote given that a quorum was not present.

The Socialist MPs submitted the no-confidence motion against Andrei Galbur after the legislative body refused to question the minister about the decision to declare five Russian diplomats personas non grata in Moldova.
