The Government headed by Iurie Leanca hasn’t been dismissed. The parliamentary majority didn’t back the censure motion put forward by the Communist MPs. Only the Communist lawmakers and three unaffiliated MPs of the Party of Socialists voted for the motion, IPN reports.
Before the vote, the lawmakers of the government coalition urged the opposition to allow the current Government to complete its duties. “Regardless of our feelings towards this Government, the European course is now more important. We must support this Government,” said Lib-Dem Valeriu Ghiletski.
Unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea said he does not support the motion only because it may cause a political crisis and Moldova’s course to Europeans integration may be in danger. The Liberal lawmakers also didn’t vote for the motion, saying they do not trust the current Government, but they do not want early elections.
In his concluding speech, Iurie Leanca thanked those who supported him and called on the opposition to forget about their blind wish to return to power at all costs. “There are much more intelligent ways of creating opposition than the dismissal,” he stated.
The censure motion was supported by 36 MPs of the 101.
The Communist MPs expressed their indignation at the Parliament’s decision. They put forward another censure motion against the Government, this time on the Transnistrian conflict and the migration points instituted on the Nistru River. The motion will be examined in Parliament next week.
