PLDM claims right to field candidate for PM

Given that the mandate of the Government was chosen for three years and a half was interrupted suddenly and without evident reasons, the party that now holds the post of Prime Minister should propose another candidate for this post. This is the PLDM’s position that was reiterated by Valeriu Strelet in the December 16 consultations with the head of state.

The acting leader of the PLDM said the PDM keeps its position: the Democrats reiterated that they have the largest parliamentary group and are ready to nominate a candidate for premiership. Asked if the PLDM would accept this proposal, Strelet said the decision can be taken only by the party’s National Political Council.

The Lib-Dem also said that he will meet again with his colleagues at talks on December 17.

In the consultations, President Nicolae Timofti said that if the parties do not reach a compromise concerning the candidate for Prime Minister, he will decide what will happen next. A new round of consultations with the head of state was scheduled for December 18.
