Premier proposes dismissing prosecutor general, SIS head and CNPF chairman
Prime Minister Vlad Filat suggested that the legislative body should discharge the head of the Security and Information Service Gheorghe Mihai, Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko and the chairman of the National Financial Market Commission, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I know that this proposal will agitate the persons who thought that these institutions are their instruments. I hope the colleagues from the AEI will not make the mistake of putting the name of the person above the maintenance of the alliance,” Vlad Filat said when presenting the Government’s report on the raider attacks on banking institutions in Parliament.
The Premier asked creating a commission that would agree the method of naming the new managers of these institutions, who would be outside political influences. Vlad Filat said Cabinet reshuffles will follow and the political affiliation of the persons will not be taken into account.
The leader of the PLDM also said he regrets that he signed the agreement on the formation of the AEI 2 on certain conditions. “What is important is not to keep the alliance at all costs, but to fulfill the commitments. The people will not forgive us if we use the alliance to hide the wrongdoings and incompetence. I was wrong when I demanded that the institutions should be managed by one party. Many people told me then I should yield. I regret that I accepted,” said Vlad Filat.
When rendering the report, the Premier said that not all the relevant institutions took steps on time in the case of the raider attacks. “An important role in stopping these attacks was to be played by the National Financial Market Commission. The CNPF was to take all the measures needed to stop the transfer of shares. It took the sequestration decision with a five-day delay. If it had acted swiftly, the shares would have been recovered after the first attack,” stated Vlad Filat.
He also said that the Security and Information Service should also have played a decisive role. “The Service did not know about this case until the Government was notified. This is incompetence,” he stressed.
As to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Vlad Filat said the main problem there is the lack of initiative and the slow reactions. “It is two months and a half since this case happened, but the prosecutors did not question the persons involved. I believe they waited for instructions what to do and how to do. We should now ask ourselves who the Prosecutor’s Office works for,” he said.
He stressed the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime did its job.
The raider attacks on four banks operating in Moldova took place early in August.
