The consultative referendum planned for this September, where the population is to answer four questions, is nothing else by a personal whim of President Igor Dodon. Such an opinion was stated in the program “People’s Council” on 10TV channel, IPN reports.
Historian Ion Mischevca said the four referendum questions have no logical connection and are connected only by Igor Dodon’s intention to show that he is the President of the people and is trying to solve the problems of the citizens. As to the question concerning the studying of the History of Moldova course, the historian said the Moldovans are neither prepared nor empowered to answer this question. “As a rule, the questions of a scientific character cannot be put up for a referendum,” stated Ion Mischevca. He added that the people cannot decide the school curriculum.
According to historian Mihai Turcanu, it is not clear whose history we should study – of the Republic of Moldova or of the Moldovan principality. “If we also consider the fact that by this initiative Dodon wants to introduce the textbook that was recently edited by Sergiu Nazaria, by adding the “history of Moldova” and saying that Dragos was a Serbian, this is another negative facet of the problem as we already build a history that is more mystical than the Soviet one and is completely false,” stated Mihai Turcanu.
The first referendum question is if the law that makes the repayment of the US$ 1 billion stolen from the banking system the people’s burden should be abrogated. The people are to also say if they want the President to be empowered to dissolve Parliament in other conditions than the current ones and to ultimately announce early elections. The fourth question is if the number of MPs should be decreased from 101 to 71. In the referendum, the people will also be asked if they want the History of Moldova to be studied in schools.
