Session of GUAM PA adopts statement condemning Russia’s aggressions

The military aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the unsolved conflicts in the member states of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development were condemned by a statement adopted in the seventh session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly held in Chisinau. In a news conference at the end of the session, the Assembly’s chair Anatolie Dimitriu said that GUAM and its parliamentary body showed that they are sufficiently viable to cope with the challenges in the future, IPN reports.

Anatolie Dimitriu noted that despite a difficult year, the objectives set by Moldova when taking over the presidency of GUAM were achieved successfully. The format of GUAM was strengthened, bringing the member states closer to the Baltic countries, the Visegrad states and the U.S.

After Moldova, the rotating presidency of GUAM is taken over by Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the GUAM PA Rustam Raupov said that Ukraine takes over the organization’s presidency in a difficult period for the country. While holding the presidency, Ukraine aims to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the GUAM countries and thus needs the assistance of the member states.

Moldova holds the presidency of GUAM in 2014.
