Tensions between PL and PLDM over Parliament Regulations

New disagreements arose between the Liberal Party (PL) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) over the proposal with amendments to the Parliament Regulations. In the October 24 meeting of the legal commission for appointments and immunities, the Liberal-Democrat Tudor Deliu proposed that the Liberals’ initiative to exclude the expression ‘as a rule’ from the regulations should come into force starting with the next legislature, not immediately. But he wasn’t supported by the other members of the commission, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I’m not in favor of changing the rules during the game. Last year we included the expression ‘as a rule’ and now want to remove it. Something else will appear tomorrow and we will again make changes. The law must be law and should have effect over time, not during a definite period,” said Tudor Deliu. Proposal author Valeriu Munteanu, of the Liberal Party, said the amendment suggested by the Liberal-Democrats is a reason for not voting for this proposal. “These are their arguments, but the proposal will get to Parliament in the form put forward by us. We hope that our arguments will convince the MPs,” he stated. The proposal did not garner the necessary number of votes for being approved, but can be submitted to Parliament, where the lawmakers will vote for or against it. The disagreements between the MPs appeared after two groups of unaffiliated lawmakers announced that they decided to form a faction. The Liberals consider that this step is illegal as the MPs entered Parliament on party lists, not owing to their own forces. The Liberal-Democrats believe that the creation of the new faction is a legal act. The Parliament Regulations say that the parliamentary factions are set up within 10 days of the constitution of the legislature, as a rule.
