The defense of ex-Premier Vlad Filat requested that judge Ghenadie Morozan, who is one of the judges who were to examine the lawyers’ appeal against the decision to extend the period of custody by 90 days on January 19, should be substituted. Lawyer Igor Popa said this judge is in a situation of incompatibility with the post held, IPN reports.

The lawyer made reference to Ghenadie Morozan’s ascending career as a judge, which is described in detail in press reports. “President Nicolae Timofti himself expressed his doubts about the compatibility of this judge. Also, the Anticorruption Alliance repeatedly warned the press that this judge is incompatible with the post held. We consider there are sufficient reasons to believe that the court decision can be biased,” stated Igor Popa.

According to the lawyer, a decision as to their request will be taken today. If their application is accepted, the appeal will be examined by another judicial panel.
