An exhibit themed “Bessarabia 1812-1947. People, places, borders” was staged in Bucharest on the occasion of 200 years of the signing of the Bucharest Treaty by which the eastern part of the Principality of Moldova was ceded to the Tsarist Empire. Details about the exhibition were provided in a news conference in Chisinau by representatives of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”, the National Museum of History of Romania, and the National Library of Moldova. “The treaty that ended the Russian-Turkish war of 1806-1812 was signed in Bucharest on May 16/28, 1812. Under it, Bessarabia was annexed to the Tsarist Empire,” said the director of the National Library of Moldova Alexei Rau. The exhibition focuses on the main diplomatic routes, the borders and the development of society on the territory of Bessarabia, which are presented through maps, documents, pictures, publications, and objects. “The exhibit “Bessarabia 1812-1947. People, places, borders” aims to restore the authentic portrait of the Romanians from Bessarabia and their daily universe over the last two decades,” the head of the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” Petru Guran has told Info- Prim Neo. Ernest Oberländer Tarnoveanu, the director general of the National Museum of History of Romania, said that the exhibition includes a catalogue that for the first time provides documents and pictures about Bessarabia during the evolution of its borders. Emphasis is put on treaties and protocols signed as a result of peace congresses and conferences, and on the people and places of this important geopolitical area. The documents used in the exhibit belong to the National Museum of History of Romania, the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Archives of Romania, the State Archives of Turkey based in Istanbul, the National Library of Romania, and to private collections.
