42% of firefighting vehicles are old

The firefighting vehicles of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service cover 70% of the necessities in relation to the number of residents, according to the current norms. Besides the insufficiency of vehicles, 42% of the functional ones are old.

The Service’s press officer Liliana Puscasu has told IPN that the local subdivisions are making effort to satisfy the needs. If a fire occurs in a settlement and the vehicles are busy, they seek help from other subdivisions. But precious time is wasted until the firefighting vehicle comes from another settlement.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service now has 440 vehicles, including firefighting vehicles, cranes, bulldozers and pieces of extrication equipment. They represent 80% of the necessities. The oldest units date from 1961. Liliana Puscasu said that they need especially extrication equipment. In order to improve the owned equipment, they established cooperation relations with a number of states.
