A 68-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in a closed prison for sexually abusing an 11-year-old minor. To escape punishment, he left the country, but was extradited and convicted, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, it happened in July 2020, when the defendant was in the garden of his house in a village in central Moldova. He saw the girl playing in the street and lured her to a shed in the garden. Together, they consumed alcoholic beverages and then he forced her to have sexual intercourse with him. Experts determined that the girl suffered psychological trauma associated with sexual abuse.

The defendant was extradited from the Russian Federation in June 2023 and placed in pre-trial detention.
